Fuel Like a Pro: Nutrition Tips Leading Into Combine Day

Why What You Eat Matters Before—and After—you Compete

As athletes, we train our speed. We train our strength. We train our mindset. But too often, we forget to train one of the most powerful tools in our toolbox: nutrition.

At Earn the Edge Performance, we believe fueling your body is just as important as how you move it—and that principle will be front and center at this year’s Performance Combine.

We’re proud to offer a Special Nutrition Education Station, hosted by Certified Sports Nutritionist Laura Cordero, to help athletes understand exactly how to fuel for energy, performance, and recovery. Local and Nutritious Press’d or Blend’d is the perfect addition to our Nutrition station for those seeking clean, wholesome meals without sacrificing flavor. Because showing up prepared isn't just about the hours spent training—it’s about how you nourish your body to support that effort.

Fuel = Energy to Perform

Athletic testing like the 40-yard dash, shuttle runs, and vertical jumps all demand fast-twitch muscle recruitment, optimal hydration, and steady energy levels. Without proper fueling, even the strongest athletes can feel sluggish or flat during performance.

What does fueling well before Combine Day look like?

  • Carbohydrates for sustained, quick-access energy

  • Protein to support muscle strength and integrity

  • Fluids + electrolytes to maintain stamina and mental clarity

  • A balanced pre-event meal 2–3 hours prior to performance (Laura will break it down with real examples!)

Recovery = Longevity

Combine Day isn’t just about crushing the tests—it’s about preparing your body for continued growth and long-term resilience. Recovery begins immediately after testing, and food is a crucial part of that process.

At the Nutrition Station, athletes will also learn:

  • What to eat post-event to reduce soreness and rebuild stronger

  • Why recovery windows matter (especially in high-demand athletes)

  • Simple snack strategies that support training year-round

We’re not just building athletes for the day—we’re building athletes for the future.

Fuel Your Body. Fuel Your Confidence.

At Earn the Edge, our goal is to educate and empower young athletes—not just to show up and perform, but to understand how they can support their performance every step of the way.

When athletes learn to connect what they eat with how they feel, move, and recover, they unlock a powerful edge that extends far beyond the field.
